NO PARKİNG ACCİDENTS WITH NISSAN’S PEDAL MISAPPLICATION PREVENTION TECHNOLOGY
Good news for those who have difficulty in parking their cars without problems. Nissan Motor Co Ltd. has announced that it will employ a function to prevent a driver from pressing down an accelerator pedal instead of a brake pedal by mistake for its Elgrand minivan in 2012.
By using four cameras and an ultrasonic sensor, the function automatically applies the brakes when the driver presses on the accelerator while parking a car in a parking lot.
Nissan calls this function as “Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication”. It showed a prototyped vehicle equipped with the function in 2011. This time, the company commercialized it.
With the four cameras and ultrasonic sensor of the “Around View Monitor” which displays the bird’s eye view of the vehicle, the function determines whether the vehicle is located inside a parking lot. Then, if there is an obstacle such as a wall in the travelling direction and the driver presses down the gas pedal, it reduces acceleration and applies the brakes before the vehicle crashes into the obstacle.
