CHIPDRIVE® MyKey -Keys to PC Security

If you’ve never thought about security for your computer, you’re in the extreme minority.  SCM Microsystems makes a product that I’ve found incredibly simple to use and highly effective at protecting my data.  It’s called the CHIPDRIVE® MyKey™, a new, highly secure USB device that makes it safer and easier for people to access the Internet and information networks.

Using smart card technology, CHIPDRIVE® MyKey stores passwords, credit card numbers and other sensitive information by streamlining the act of username/password requests, along with other data required to access your frequently visited sites. You simply insert the drive into a USB slot on a PC or notebook and enter a PIN to automatically answer login password requests, access personal data and easily fill in online forms.

No longer do you have to rely on memory or your username/password diary. The CHIPDRIVE MyKey holds the encrypted information instead of the PC, so once the device is removed the information is not available to anyone else. This better protects privacy, identity and sensitive data, particularly in situations where others may have access to the computer, such as at work or at Internet cafes or airport kiosks.

The CHIPDRIVE MyKey solution and SCM Microsystems received a 2008 Innovation Award for IT Security from the German-based Initiative for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), an organization that provides IT consulting and market trend analysis. Since 2004, the Innovation Award has been presented annually for select new products based on criteria including benefit, innovation, and suitability for SMEs. The award jury consists of scientists, industry experts and specialized journalists. This year’s jury evaluated 1,600 products, solutions and services for SMEs.

The CHIPDRIVE MyKey package includes the CHIPDRIVE MyKey USB Token, a pre-cut CHIPDRIVE Masterkey 24k chip card and accompanying software on CD-ROM. More information is available at www.chipdrive.net.
