Jitsuro Mase’s i3DG add-on gadget for the iPhone

With Jitsuro Mase’s i3DG add-on gadget for the iPhone and other iOS devices as well, you can view 3D images and video without adorning your face with fancy 3D glasses.

It does the trick by placing a half-silvered mirror in front of the image, tilted at a 45 degree angle. It’s known as the Pepper Ghost technique.  Having won an honorary mention at the Ars Electronica Festival 2010, the i3DG will continue its quest for accolades and a wider audience at the 2012 Rotterdam International Film Festival in Rotterdam.

As long as the apps and images are designed for 3D viewing, the i3DG seems to be able to work with anything, from 3D videos to accelerometer-based games.
