BUNN My Cafe MC Home Pod Brewer review

BUNN comes to the home with the My Cafe MC Home Pod Brewer

BUNN has been making drip coffee makers since 1972, both for the home and commercially.  You can’t walk into a restaurant without seeing one of their brewers installed.

A few years back, they started manufacturing coffee brewers for the home, and they haven’t looked back.  The big difference in their home machines from other home brewers is the fact that most all of their models contain a heated reservoir that keeps available water hot for an instant pot of fresh-brewed coffee.

    Where to buy: [amazon_link id=”B0051CO36E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Amazon[/amazon_link]

The [amazon_link id=”B0051CO36E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]BUNN My Cafe MC[/amazon_link] Home Pod Brewer is their latest edition to home brewers, and essentially is modified single cup “pour-over” brewer with a reservoir.  It has a reservoir tank, and it brews 4 to 12 ounces of coffee or tea to preferred strength by adjusting the portion/volume control. The Bunn My Cafe MC uses coffee pods and tea pods, and features both a standard brew mode and a pulse brew mode for tea and darker coffees.

The first thing you’ll notice with the MC is that it’s compact, much like the other single-server brewers out there.  It comes with a one pod drawer for brewing.  The added benefit, though, is a feature that allows you to choose your brew strength.  The Pulse Brew option allows you to extract a bolder coffee flavor, and is a good brewing technology for tea as well.  It involves “pre-wetting” the coffee grounds inside the pod.  It then pauses, and does it several more times allowing for the water and coffee/tea to really absorb into each other.   The Mr. Coffee and Keurig single brew machines don’t have this.  Additionally, BUNN’s patented Jet Action Sprayhead propels the water through the pods with such force, that it really extracts every bit of flavor out of the pod.

The BUNN [amazon_link id=”B0051CO36E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]My Cafe MC[/amazon_link] includes a stainless steel hot water tank, which will keep your water at 200-degrees F.  This is an ideal brewing temperature that keeps the bitterness out of the coffee.  The MC My Cafe also includes an assortment of coffee pods and tea pods so you can start brewing right away.  And BUNN didn’t skimp when it comes to available flavor options.  There are a ton….from Donut Shop to Vanilla Hazelnut, from Sweet Unity Farms Mahale Highlands to Sorrento Blend.  BUNN even offers Organa Tea Pods and a line of City Steam pods that are fabulous.

One very nice selling point of the MC is the pod drawer. Instead of a holder, which will only accept one size of pod, the My Cafe will take almost any pod currently on the market.   Additionally, Bunn includes two pod holders for the My Cafe so you can separate out you coffee pod holder from your tea pod holder.

There is no power switch on the MC.  Alternatively, the brewer goes into standby mode after 6-hours, and keeps the water in the tank hot for that period of time.  After it goes into standby mode, when you pull out the coffee pod drawer, the brewer heats up and is ready for use in a few minutes.

The BUNN MC My Cafe is well-made, brews great, and its universal pod tray is a serious plus.  If you’re in the market for a single-serve home brewer, get the BUNN MC My Cafe.  It’s the best out on the market.  And why shouldn’t it be.  BUNN’s reputation has always been at the top of the list.

There are two different versions of the Bunn My Cafe – the MC and the MCP.  The [amazon_link id=”B002TOKE3I” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]MCP[/amazon_link] is the commercial version, which includes a large 64-oz reservoir and retails for around $400. The suggested retail on the BUNN MC My Cafe Home Pod Brewer is [amazon_link id=”B004EBUWHM” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]$99.99[/amazon_link] to $139.99, depending on where you buy.
