Technology company Fujitsu developed a pedometer for dogs and exhibited it at CEATEC JAPAN 2012. The company is getting ready to release the pedometer “Wandant” in the fall of 2012 and provide a cloud service for it. The price of this new product is expected to be around $128, almost the same as a dog’s haircut.
Fujitsu’s new pedometer “The Wandant” is equipped with a three-axis acceleration sensor, thermo-hygrometer, Felica module, volatile memory, microcomputer, button battery and so on. This pedometer counts the number of paces of a dog, and checks its living enviroment ( temperature and humidity) so that the owner of the dog can use the this data for ensuring the dog’s health. The Wandant, weighs in at about 20-grams, and is supposed to be attached to a dog collar.
The Wandant has a dual counting function. A landing of one forefoot is counted as one pace while the dog walks. Butlandings of two forefeet are counted as one pace while the dog runs. To count the number of paces, it will use its three-axis acceleration sensor while the therm-hygrometer helps detect changes of a dog’s living enviroment.
Two weeks of data can be stored in the pedometer. Fujitsu will provide a service for transmitting measured data to a cloud via a FeliCa-compatible smartphone and storing it. Changes of a dog’s state of activity can be seen in chronological order on a website that can be checked on personal computers and smartphones.
