    The Advantage Of Mobile Gambling

Happy Man with a Mobile PhoneI’ve always thought of sports betting as sort of a one-time thing. As in, you make your bets and the deed is done until whatever game or match you placed money on comes to an end. Indeed, this is, technically, still the case – you can’t exactly go about changing your bets in the middle of a match! (Though, you can in many cases bet on smaller things, like the free Streak For The Cash bets on ESPN over which team will score more in the 2nd half, etc.) But the point is that I’ve always considered my fate sealed the moment I enter a bet.

That all changed earlier this year when, of course, a mobile device saved my neck in the gambling arena. By now I’m quite used to my phone basically running my life for me – keeping my schedule, giving me reminders, running my communications, and supplying my minute-to-minute entertainment (not to mention time-passing distractions). But I’d never really benefited in a financial way from a phone application until a few months ago.

I make my sports bets mostly through Betfair at least when I want to actually put real money on the line (I mess around with a few just-for-fun, jackpot style systems like the aforementioned “Streak for the Cash”), and generally speaking it’s a pretty simple and thorough system. There’s access to a lot of sports, with up-to-date odds not just on winners but on various factors of interest. But most importantly, as I recently discovered, there’s an app!

Real money gambling apps can actually be hard to come by, and the ability to adjust your bet (or just track your beds) on the go is pretty invaluable. In my particular case, it was last-minute news and my undying faith in Derek Jeter (yes, I’m a Yankees fan – we’re all sinners) that combined with my Betfair app to come in handy. In late July, Jeter was on the fence in terms of when he’d be back from injury, and after he missed a Saturday game I’d given up on him for the weekend. However, just hours before the follow-up game on Sunday it was announced that Jeter would be back in the lineup. Trusting that the Yankees would rally around Jeter (the team needed a win quite badly), I made a quick bet on the game on the go. Sure enough, Jeter homered in his first at-bat back with the team, and the Yankees went on to win a pretty dramatic game.

I didn’t exactly haul in a boatload of cash – that’s hard to do betting on a random regular season baseball game. But the quick adjustment on the go gave me a whole new perspective on sports betting. As a generally fanatic sports fan, I tend to be pretty up-to-date on sporting news, so using timely updates from my favorite sites, and even Twitter feeds, can now factor into my gambling endeavors!
