Verizon now offering ION Air Copy Wireless Mobile Scanner (video)

    Ion Air Copy

The ION Air Copy Wireless Mobile Scanner is an ultra-portable 600 dpi Wi-Fi scanner that lets you scan any photo, documents or business cards…and save it to your smartphone, tablet or computer as a PDF or JPEG. This little baby is compact enough to fit in a briefcase, backpack or bag, and a free scanning app is available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Kindle Fire

The ION Air Copy also allows you to view images on your device’s screen as they are being scanned. The scanner uses its own ad hoc Wi-Fi network so it can save files to your device even if you’re not connected to the Internet.  The Air Copy brings support for slinging scanned documents and photos as big as size A4. Once documents are scanned, they’re saved as high-resolution 300 DPI JPEG files to the connected hardware.

The hardware itself is easy on the eyes and light enough to comfortably tote around, however, the real magic selling feature is that it’s totally wireless. Beyond a USB cable for charging, there are no wires or cables to worry about. To interact with the device, all you have to do is turn it on and connect to the WiFi network it generates. No cables, no network setup, no drivers. It’s all very simple. Everything you do with Air Copy is done through the official Air Copy apps.

The apps are very simple and to-the-point, with only a single button onscreen: “Scan.” After clicking that button, Air Copy pulls your photo/document in through the front slot and out through the rear slot, displaying your image in the app within a matter of seconds. I experienced a few hiccups during my first few trials, but restarting the app remedied that issue, and now it works beautifully.

I had no issues on other platforms either. Because the paper needs to be fed through the device, it does have limitations when it comes to thick cardstock, etc.: Air Copy is capable of scanning photos and documents between 0.08mm and 0.60mm in thickness. Be sure that you don’t need anything larger before buying. It can accommodate anything from small business cards to large 8.5×11″ documents. After scanning a few documents and photos, I’ve found the quality to be excellent across the board. Not perfect, but arguably better than other scanners I’ve used.

With its beautiful, curved exterior, compact size, and excellent performance, ION’s Air Copy is among the next generation of scanning technology, and it’s definitely something to consider adding to your office. You can purchase it through ION for $199.99 or Verizon Wireless for $179.99.
