Fiction to Reality: Smart Tech Origin Stories (Infographic)

As children, many of us watched science fiction television shows and movies and dreamed of a future when all of the amazing technology would be ours to use. Some of these ideas, like instantly replicated food or the ability to transport to any location are not yet a reality. However, others that once seemed so farfetched and far off are already being taken for granted by all of us today.

Who could forget the technology used by the crew of the Starship Enterprise on Star Trek? Even though they were based in the distant future, exploring alien worlds and interacting with bizarre life forms, their technology may start to look oddly familiar through the context of the present day.

The flip-up wireless communicators used on away missions already probably look silly in their comparison to flip phones. It doesn’t stop there though, everything from bluetooth earpieces to tablets may seem Star Trek-inspired.

Trek isn’t the only science fiction story inspiring the latest technology. Everything from the gesture-controlled computer in Minority Report to Iron Man’s suit is becoming real life, available technology. To find out what other beloved fictional fantasies are now a part of the real world, check out this graphic, provided by SmartTollFreeNumber.com , that compares fictional devices to their actually existing counterparts.
