    Hurom HZ Slow Juicer Review

The Hurom HZ Slow Juicer is part of Hurom’s new Alpha series, and is probably considered their flagship model as it relates to juice extractors. In short, the HZ stuffs a lot of technology, which lends well to its juice extraction abilities. In fact it can even make ice cream, thanks to it’s 43 RPM motor. Combine that with an easy to clean design, and you have a product, which will make you salivate if you’re in the market for one of these.

    Hurom HZ Slow Juicer Design

At first glance, the Hurom HZ is plain and simply elegant, boasting a gorgeous stainless steel finish and a high-tech LED indicator, which indicates modes of operation and power. And because the motor can be manually driven, this lends well if you’re into complete motor pulsating control when juicing.

The body is made from BPA-free, impact resistant ABS plastic, and the auger and strainer are constructed from heavy-duty Ultem plastic. And because the Hurom HZ is essentially built like a tank, the company has no issue extending its customers a 10-year motor warranty and 2-years parts warranty on its device.

    Features

The Hurom HZ Alfa Series Slow Juicer is a vertical masticating juicer. That means it’s self feeding, thanks to gravity, and most will tell you that this type of juicer design is the easiest to use. It’s fairly light in weight, and get this, it comes with its own self-cleaning system.

So how does that work you ask? With normal juicers, you have to disassemble parts to clean. With Hurom’s HZ Self-Cleaning feature, you simply close the juice tap, fill with water and turn it on. The spinning brush whisks away any pulp caught in the strainer. Subsequently, you allow it to drain, and repeat until it is free of any remaining pulp or residue. You see, this juicer is a “slow juicer”, so it’s propulsion, while powerful, mixes and strains slowly, eliminating messes while the motor runs.

Once in a while, you will want to pull it apart for a thorough cleaning. Here, you’ll soak the removable parts in warm soapy water, minus the base, and use the included large and small cleaning brushes to give the strainers and screen a good once-over. This shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. A drying rack is even included.

    Use

The HZ also has some pretty high-end accessories. For example, if you want to add pulp to your juice, you use the included coarse strainer, which works well with softer fruits. If pulp is not your shtick, the fine strainer is your go to. And if you’ve always wanted to make your own ice cream, well then the ice cream strainer makes the chore a breeze, and because you have control of the ingredients, you can even make said ice cream healthy.

For vegetable juice, things get a little tad more complicated, but honestly, it’s not that bad. Because the HZ can only handle small to fine chunks of harder fruits or veggies, it’s a good idea to chop up things a bit like carrots, celery and kale to preserve the integrity of the strainers and the motor. Having said that, once you labor over that little chore, the result is about the best damn vegetable juice you’ve ever tasted…without preservatives, salt or sugars.

    The Finished Product

The secret ingredient to the Hurom HZ’s operation is in the company’s Alpha technology. It lets you extract a very high yield of fresh, natural tasting juice by skillfully pressing the produce, and expelling bone dry pulp as it juices. With a brush speed of 17RPM and an auger speed of only 43 RPM, the juice is mixed within the drum, eliminating excessive froth.

This technology also retains more of the nutrients from your fruit, produce, leafy greens or even nuts and beans than most other competing brands, and the lever gives you control over pulp quantity if you’re straining fruit. Even hard produce like broccoli, carrots and celery are no match for the Hurom HZ Slow Juicer.

Use the coarse ultem strainer to make puree out of tomatoes, papaya, mango avocado, kale, cabbage, beets, oranges, lemons, grapefruit or melons. You can also make tofu, almond and soy milk using the ice cream strainer.

Hurom HZ Slow Juicer Alpha Series

    Bottom Line

You might experience some sticker-shock when you check out the $599 price tag, but if you want quality production, you won’t be disappointed with the Hurom HZ Slow Juicer. It is a high-quality, high-end juicer with a gorgeous stainless steel construction, and delivers the highest of quality juice yields. It also doesn’t look to shabby on a kitchen counter.
