    Evapolar 2 – EvaSmart Personal Air Conditioner|Review & Specification

Have you ever wished having a Personal Air Cooler that you could just carry around your house, from one room to another? Having a portable A.C. unit can be extremely convenient, making you feel refreshed wherever you are. The Evapolar Personal Air Cooler is your solution if you’re looking for a portable Air Cooler. While fans don’t change the air temperature, the Evapolar Personal Air Cooler does, using a tank of water to cool the air it blows at you.

Even though most evaporative coolers are large portable A.C. units, the Evapolar Personal Air Cooler is a small cooler, measuring just 174 x 170 x 170mm, making it ideal to be placed on a desk. It’s available in three colors; white, black and blue. It has a 750ml water tank that sits on the side. It’s a bit tricky to remove, and the flap on top is slightly fragile, but after a couple of refills you’ll get the hang of getting the tank in and out smoothly.

The water in the tank is absorbed into the cartridge inside, spreading evenly over the surface of the cooling pads. The fan at the rear blows warm air over the water, making it evaporate, cooling the air and adding humidity to it. Cartridges last approximately six months before they need to be changed and go for €39.99 each. The water tank can provide between three and four hours of cooling, and the cartridge can absorb around 400ml of water, but you can extend the cooling time between one to three hours, by refilling it when the cartridge is saturated.

You can easily control the Evapolar Personal Air Cooler with the bright screen on top, which acts as a button. Pressing and holding this screen turns the cooler on or off. With the dial around the outside, you can adjust the fan speed, allowing you to choose between 20 speed settings, offering anything from a gentle breeze to a strong blast of air.

When in default mode, the display shows the incoming air temperature, or the ambient temperature of your room, while also showing the outgoing air temperature. By tapping the button once, you’ll access the main menu. This lets you change the color of the water reservoir’s light (allowing you to match your décor), as well as changing the light intensity, or just turning the light off. Night mode turns off the reservoir light and lowers the main display light intensity. You can customize the device to make it shine a specific color when the cartridge runs dry, telling you when it’s time to refill the water. The only way to tell when it’s time to replace the cartridge is noticing when cooling performance drops, making the Personal Air Cooler less effective.

As soon as the cartridge has absorbed all the water from the tank, the Personal Air Cooler operates at maximum efficiency. The cooling effect depends on ambient temperature and relative humidity, while evaporative coolers work best in hot and dry environments. You can consult a table that shows the expected performance of the cooler: at 25 ºC with 30% relative humidity, the air output should be 15.4 ºC; at the same temperature but at 60% relative humidity, output temperature is 19.7 ºC. At 70% relative humidity or more, the Personal Air Cooler might not work, and you should ventilate the room or run a dehumidifier. The sensors are super accurate.

Running a test at minimum speed, an anemometer wasn’t sensitive enough to detect the gentle air flow. Compared to a traditional fan, the Personal Air Cooler doesn’t shift as much air, but it doesn’t need to since it’s able to provide a gentle breeze of cool air that cools much better than a fan. Stepping too far away from the Personal Air Cooler means that you will stop feeling its outcoming fresh air, since this product is designed to create a microclimate, and not cool a room. The Evapolar Personal Air Cooler helps with working at your desk, making it much more comfortable, or with providing a peaceful sleep, keeping your body cool on a hot night. It doesn’t make much noise, measuring 53.9dB at 1m at max power; and at minimum power, the noise levels are 33.4dB, making it a low background noise.

Power consumption is excellent. The Evapolar Personal Air Cooler draws 2W at minimum fan speed and only 6.2W at maximum power; a lot less power than an air conditioner would draw, and the same or less than a fan with the same proportions. The Personal Air Cooler is powered by a standard micro-USB cable and its running costs are extremely low.

As said before, this device is made for personal use. It looks cool, it’s small and compact, cheap to run, and has easy-to-use controls, making the Evapolar Personal Air Cooler a great way to stay cool while working at your desk or while sleeping.
