The New Owlet Cam for Your Baby: Review, Features & Updates

The Owlet Smart Cam can be fully integrated with the Smart Sock 2.0, providing parents some extra comfort during sleep, since they can easily monitor their baby from anywhere. The Owlet Smart Sock 2 tracks a baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels during sleep. Then, if any of these levels fall outside of a preset range, a notification is sent via Bluetooth to the base station, smartphone, or tablet. But, while the Owlet Smart Sock 2 doesn’t offer a way for parents to watch their newborn baby via video feed, excluding the need of walking into the room and waking the baby up, the Owlet Cam offers exactly that, and it can also be fully-integrated with the Owlet Smart Sock 2.

Basically, the Owlet Cam is able to turn either your smartphone or tablet into a baby monitor after being connected to either of them. Parents are able to hear and see their baby from anywhere by using the corresponding Owlet app and connecting a portable device to it, with the ability to stream high-quality video and sound. The Owlet app requires iOS 8 or higher and Android 4.4 or higher, as well as a WiFi connection. It’s important to note that a WiFi HotSpot is NOT recommended.

The Owlet Smart Cam features HD Streaming with Night Vision, offering 1080p video that lets parents see their baby in crystal clear detail during both day and night. The 130-degree wide angle lens and 4x digital zoom give parents complete visibility into their baby’s crib or room. There’s also a temperature sensor to ensure the baby’s room doesn’t get too hot or too cold.

The Owlet Smart Cam is also equipped with two-way talk & background audio – parents can talk to and soothe their baby from anywhere or use the background audio to listen to the little one while using their phone for other tasks. The Owlet Cam comes with secure, encrypted audio, using AES 128-bit encryption and TLS connection to WiFi, meaning that only those you choose can stream footage from your Owlet Cam. Its included safe wall mounting kit allows for bird’s-eye view of the crib, but parents can also just place the cam on a flat surface, with its magnetic base to be easily adjusted, providing a view of the entire playroom. Although it can be fully integrated to work seamlessly with the Smart Sock 2.0, that’s not required. You can use it together or on its own!

If you’re interested in getting your own Owlet Smart Cam, it sells for $149. However, when you purchase it in combination with a Smart Sock 2.0, you will get $50 off, which will make it $399 for both of them.
