Peril Protect System – Smart 24/7 Monitoring Water Leak Detection System

Any responsible homeowner knows just how hard it can be to not only keep an eye on any potential water leaks, but also to find any visible signs of an occurring water leak inside their home. Still, detecting these sneaky water leaks inside your home is quite important, as it can ultimately help you to prevent any potential water damage as well as water waste. Now, while you could regularly check for any signs of potential water leaks around your house, in the long run, that would always end up with you dedicating a lot of your free time just to do that. Instead, consider using something like the Peril Protect System, which not only saves you a ton of time by having it automatically keeping an eye out for water leaks for you, but also ends up giving you the ultimate peace of mind when it comes to any potential water leaks.

The Peril Protect is a subscription-based smart water leak detection system that can monitor water leaks 24/7 by using multiple sensors and a cellular hub to generate text and email alerts whenever a water leak is detected.

Not only that, but thanks to its cellular technology, this smart water leak detection system is also capable of automatically notifying a 24/7 Call Center that will contact you if you end up not responding to the system’s originally generated phone-text and email alerts, for which the call center’s dedicated Staff Team will then put you in touch with a local plumbing service if repairs are necessary.

Overall, the system is quite easy to install and its sensors are fairly responsive. With it, you can ensure that your home is always protected against any potential water leaks, which sometimes can even end up becoming quite costly (especially if not dealt with at early stages).

So, let’s have a more detailed look at this smart 24/7 monitoring water leak detection system and check out exactly how it works and also see everything that it has to offer you.

    DESIGN & SPECS

For our review unit, we have the  Peril Protect “Essentials Package”, which comes together with four (x4) water sensors and a dedicated Cellular Hub included.

    The Sensors

Starting with the system’s dedicated sensors, each of these water leak detection sensors features a somewhat bulky, yet compact design, with each sensor measuring exactly 2.7 inches long by 2.7 inches wide by 0.8 inches tall/thick.

As said before, these sensors work based on the company’s proprietary wireless technology, which is exactly what allows them to communicate with the hub and are powered by a sealed non-removable battery rated to last up to five years.

Each of the system’s sensors integrates a total of four water sensor terminals (which come built-in on the bottom of each device), and one side of the sensor also integrates an LED indicator, an On/Off Button, and a Test Button.

Since this is in fact a subscription based service, it’s also worth to mention that if the battery in any of the system’s original water sensors ever happens to give out, know that the company (Peril Protect) will be sending you a new sensor (free-of-charge).

    The Cellular HUB

The system’s Cellular HUB also features a reasonably compact design, measuring just 6.0 inches long by 5.0 inches wide by 1.0 inch tall, and it basically features a triangular shape and a minimalist white body.

This Cellular HUB comes equipped with one (x1) single built-in Adjustable Antenna, and it also integrates a On/Off Power Switch as well as a Power Jack (both at the back-side of the device).

Integrated inside the system’s HUB we have several Cellular and RF Radio-transmitters as well as a built-in Rechargeable Battery that’s capable of powering up the HUB for up to 18 hours (this ultimately ensures that the HUB remains working at all times, even in the event of a power loss).

Lastly, the system’s Cellular HUB also integrates a built-in LED Light at its front side, which basically lights up with a Red color when you originally power it up for the first time, and then lights up with a Green color, which basically informs users that a stable Cellular Connection has been established. (Keep in mind that the company does not indicate what cellular network it uses).

    SETUP / INSTALLATION

As mentioned earlier, this smart 24/7 monitoring water leak detection system is reasonably easy to setup / install.

Right after unboxing the system’s Cellular HUB and its several included dedicated water sensors, you’ll first have to plug the system’s HUB to power.

After that, it’s just a matter of getting each of the system’s water leak detection sensors installed right at any areas where you’d think that a water leak could potentially occur. Then just remember to turn on the Power On/Off button for each of the system’s sensors and you’re all done!

    It’s literally that easy!

On a side note, I’d like to point out that both the system’s Cellular HUB as well as all of its dedicated water sensors already come pre-configured so that you can have a simple and super-straightforward DIY installation right out of the box, meaning that the system’s components (HUB and water sensors) will automatically connect themselves with a data network instead of Wi-Fi, and that’s mainly to ensure both the system’s security and reliability (to ensure that it stays operational) during power outages.

During your setup process, the included Installation Manual also provides you with helpful suggestions for potential locations for the system’s dedicated water sensors, like having them installed close to any water heaters, near any bathroom sinks and/or toilets, or even close to a washing machine. Nevertheless, the locations for the system’s sensors can obviously be customized to your specific needs.

    PERFORMANCE TEST

Overall, the Peril Protect System’s dedicated water sensors performed fairly well during our tests, and the App’s notifications also arrived very quickly.

In fact, in just a few seconds after the system’s water sensors detected a potential water leak, they immediately signaled the system’s Cellular HUB about a potential water leak occurrence, for which the system’s HUB sent me both a text and an email alerts that I received directly on my Smartphone.

On a second test, ignoring those two (text and email) alerts triggered the system’s Cellular HUB to place a direct call request to the company’s 24/7 call-center immediately, for which they called me shortly after.

THE SMARTPHONE COMPANION APP – The Peril Protect App

I’d like to mention that the system’s Smartphone Companion App was designed as a PWA (Progressive Web App), meaning that this App basically uses a web console to allow users to edit their profile settings including their personal credentials, which include their Name, Email Address, and Home Location, and users are also able to edit both their Account and Monthly Billing Information.

Within the App, there’s also a “Devices Screen” that displays the system’s Cellular HUB name, as well as all of your already-installed Sensors by name. (I’d suggest you name each sensor by room-name / house-area – i.e. Bathroom Sensor, etc.)

To edit a sensor name, all you have to do is tap the pencil icon and select a sensor location (toilet, sink, laundry, main valve, etc.) from the pop-up list. The Alert History screen contains a list of all leak events by date and time, and tells you which sensor was triggered, while the Insurance Info screen is where you go to enter your insurance policy number and policy type in order to qualify for possible savings.

As said before, as soon as any of the system’s sensors detect an occurring water leak, that specific sensor will start flashing and beeping, and it will also trigger the system’s Cellular Hub to start flashing and beeping. After that, the system’s HUB will immediately send out both a phone text and as well as an email alerts, and it will also notify the company’s dedicated call center if you ever end up missing both notifications.
