Industries That Changed to Adapt to New Technologies

We’re facing major technological innovations every day. What seemed before a like-fi movie is now part of our everyday life. From mobile phones, the cars we drive, and home appliances, to the games we play, the list can go on and on. However, there are some industries that have been affected and had to adapt to new technologies more than others. Here’s a list of industries that changed to adapt to new technologies.

    Gaming Industry

The gaming industry has been affected by new technology drastically over the last few decades. New video games are providing unreal experiences we only could’ve dreamed of. Every aspect of the gaming industry has changed to adapt, even casino games. Before you had to walk into a land-based casino and place your bets or play casino games, nowadays, you’re only a click away from your favorite online casino game.

In addition, online casinos, like SkyCity, offer a much wider variety of games when compared to regular and traditional casinos. Another great thing about casinos adapting to new technologies is being able to play and win money from the comfort of your home.

    Telecommunications

Telecommunication is one of the industries most affected by new technologies. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that New York City removed its last payphone this year, in 2022. Let’s be real, nobody used those phone booths in a very long time. Nowadays, everyone is walking with their smartphones that have access to pretty much anything you need.

We can even connect our watch to our phone to help us stay healthy and safe, how crazy is that? We don’t even have to worry about international call costs or wait days and weeks to receive a letter from our loved ones. Instead, every communication can be done in an instant, no matter if your loved one is on the other side of the world. The telecommunication industry has changed drastically to new technologies and will continue to do so even more.

    Streaming and DVD Industry

Some new technologies made major businesses cease operations, while it opened a whole new door for other new industries. A good example is the decline of DVD rentals and Blockbuster closing while the streaming industry, like Netflix, is at its peak. In order to survive this new technology, the DVD rental industry had to completely change its way of doing business and adapt to new needs. Netflix dropped the old model and welcomed a completely new one.

However, they didn’t drop renting DVDs right away, they kept renting DVDs while introducing a streaming platform in 2007. Soon enough, people began to realize how streaming a movie or a tv show is convenient. For the DVD and streaming industries to completely adapt to a new way of doing business, it meant making a significant investment, which turned out great in the end.

    Fast Food and Coffee Industry

We’re so used to ordering our food online that we don’t think of times when those apps were introduced. Starbucks was one of the first beverage retailers to introduce its app in 2009. The Starbucks app provides points to customers when making a purchase that could be traded for different rewards, like a free coffee.

Nowadays, almost every fast food and beverage industry has an app that allows you to order your food and collect points or get great deals. This form of gamification of ordering your meal or drink is what made these apps special. The fast-food industry adapting and making changes to new technology has allowed these companies to keep track of consumer preferences and deliver promotions and advertisements that are relevant to a specific customer.

    Travel Industry

The traveling industry is no exception when it comes to changing to adapt to new technologies. Traveling has become so much easier than it used to be, from booking your accommodation online, reading reviews, being able to look at photos of the place, and knowing exactly where you’re going to stay.

Also, you’re able to pay using the contactless paying method, check for your flight online, cancel your reservation and discover a new country to visit, all from your laptop or mobile phone.

    Construction and Architecture Industry

The construction and architecture industry has adapted to new technology and is able to create and deliver 3D models of buildings before construction. These 3D models allow them to notice any design or structure flaws that could affect a real building. With this new approach to this industry, companies are saving a significant amount of money on design oversights.

In addition, companies can use AR or augmented reality to project computer-generated visuals onto the real site and see the steps involved in the construction. It can be easily said that these technologies will only continue to grow.
