Facebook Intros Places, Location Check-in and Discovery

Facebook held a media event, launching the Foursquare-competing product, called Places. Basically “Places” helps you see where you are, helps you see who’s around you, and helps you see what’s going on nearby (discovery).

You can tag friends with you while checking into locations, and Places will automatically check you in and create a news feed story showing where you are. Facebook also has opened up API access to Places.

Facebook Places is available in a new iPhone application update, and in Facebook’s mobile touch website for advanced mobile devices.
