Hampton Benjilock TSA Travel/Luggage Lock & Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock

Keeping your personal belongings safe can be tricky. Whether you keep them stored inside your briefcase while you’re on-the-go, or even “locked safely” inside your personal locker at school, at the gym, or even at work, all those storage compartments are quite easy to breach. That’s why its advised that you use a dedicated padlock to keep your storage compartments further protected from potential thieves. However, it can be hard to find the right padlock that completely fits your needs. While standard key-padlocks and combination-padlocks (A.K.A. “combo-padlocks”) are now considered somewhat “old”, fingerprint-reading padlocks are seen as the future of their outdated counterparts, as they offer their users multiple ways of unlocking their padlocks. This brings us to the Hampton Benjilock Padlocks.

The company behind the Benjilock Padlocks, who’s simply known as Hampton Products, is a leader in the hardware and lighting industry. The company is vastly known worldwide for its wide range of contemporary lock technology, as well as its innovative residential hardware, lighting and travel security products, which all feature high quality designs.

Now, back to the Hampton Benjilock Padlocks. The company currently has two different fingerprint-reading padlocks available. Those are the Benjilock TSA Travel/Luggage Lock and the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock.

Each Benjilock Padlock model is a bit different from the other. Starting with the Benjilock TSA Travel/Luggage Lock, this model was designed particularly to be used by travelers to lock their luggage, and that goes especially for those that spend a lot of their time on-the-go.

On the other hand, the company’s second model – the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock – was designed to be used specifically as a slightly larger locking solution that allows you to keep storage compartments secure, including something like a personal locker at a school, at a gym, or even at work.

Now, let’s take a more detailed look at each of these Hampton Benjilock Padlocks and check everything that each model has to offer.

    BENJILOCK TSA TRAVEL/LUGGAGE LOCK

    DESIGN & SPECS

This lock model is a slightly smaller portable lock than its counterpart, measuring exactly 0.98 inches long by 0.56 inches wide by 2.07 inches tall (2.5 x 1.44 x 5.28 cm), and weighing just 3.17 oz. (90 g).

The lock features a hard durable body and comes equipped with a chrome-plated hardened steel shackle that provides both strength and security for whatever luggage you’re looking to lock.

Right at the center of the unit users can easily find the lock’s dedicated built-in circular biometric fingerprint-reading sensor, which features six (x6) Blue LED Indicator Lights around it.

This fingerprint-reading lock supports up to a maximum of five (x5) fingerprints. After having between one to five (x5) different fingerprints saved up within the lock’s internal memory, the unit’s biometric fingerprint sensor can easily be used to read a user’s fingerprint and unlock the lock.

Furthermore, it’s worth to point out that the possibility of storing up to five (x5) different fingerprints allows a whole family to use the same lock. That ultimately allows parents to buy only one lock and save some of their hard-earned money when traveling with their kids with just one single bag as luggage.

While the lock does have a dedicated key-hole (discussed at the end of this section) that’s located right at the bottom of the unit, the lock’s Fingerprint Technology completely eliminates the need for keys and combinations.

At the back of the unit, there’s also a programmable 3-digit control panel that can be configured with a 3-digit to 8-digit pin code combination for added security. As such, this TSA-accepted lock also allows users to program an optional pin code for some added peace of mind.

As this lock is battery powered by its built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, each unit also comes with an included Micro USB Charging Cable that can be connected to the lock’s charging port to recharge the unit. The lock’s Micro USB Charging Port is located at the bottom left of the unit.

Moreover, at the front side of the padlock, right at the bottom left corner, users can also find a small red TSA Diamond, which means that the Benjilock TSA Travel/Luggage Lock is also TSA approved. That basically means that the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) agency will allow travelers to lock their luggage with this specific lock, which prevents anyone other than the owner or the agency itself from opening the lock and accessing your luggage’s contents.

Additionally, TSA will always have keys that are specifically designed to be able to open the lock’s dedicated key-hole, which means that if the person in charge of the lock’s saved fingerprints is not around but is part of your family, TSA can open up the lock for you after checking your ID.

Lastly, while this TSA-accepted Travel Sentry Lock is perfect to be used with any of your luggage and also makes it easy to check luggage at the airport, users can also use it to lock their personal locker at school, at a gym, or even at work.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

The Benjilock TSA Travel/Luggage Lock is a TSA-accepted fingerprint-reading lock that can store up to 5 fingerprints as well as be configured with an optional pin code.

    BENJILOCK 43MM FINGERPRINT PADLOCK

    DESIGN & SPECS

Now, moving on to the company’s second lock model, the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock is slightly larger (despite being a bit shorter) than the previously mentioned TSA-Approved Lock. This second lock measures exactly 1.27 inches long by 1.40 inches wide by 0.80 inches tall (3.23 x 3.58 x 2.04 cm). This second model also weighs a bit more than the first one, weighing exactly 8.11 oz. (230 g).

The Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock features a chrome-plated body that’s equipped with a double stainless-steel ball locking mechanism, making the unit quite durable / sturdy.

At the very center of the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock we can find its built-in biometric fingerprint-reading sensor, which, contrarily to the TSA-Approved model’s circular fingerprint sensor, this second model’s sensor comes shaped as a square. Nevertheless, it also features a whole set of Blue LED Indicator Lights all around its fingerprint panel.

Another difference between the previously analyzed first model (the Benjilock TSA Travel/Luggage Lock) and the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock is that this second model can support up to ten (x10) different fingerprints saved up within the lock’s internal memory.

That makes it extremely easy for a whole family to share and use the same lock with more than one fingerprint saved up per family member.

Using the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock’s fingerprint sensor is quite easy, and the sensor can very quickly and super-accurately read a user’s fingerprint to unlock the lock.

This second model also features a dedicated key-hole that can be used with the lock’s two (x2) included Traditional Keys. Additionally, the lock’s internal solid brass keyway cylinder features a total of five (x5) brass pins that are able to greatly resist lock-picking.

Just like the first reviewed model, the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock is also a battery powered lock that’s powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

Recharging the unit is quite easy, as all that you have to do is plug its included Micro USB Charging Cable to the lock’s charging port and its internal battery will quickly be back to a full charge. Similar to the first model, the Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock’s Micro USB Charging Port is located at the bottom of the unit (this time around the middle of its bottom side).

    FINAL THOUGHTS

The Benjilock 43mm Fingerprint Padlock was mainly designed to keep storage compartments like a personal locker at a school, a gym, or at work secure, but it can also be used to keep a gate or storage unit’s door securely locked.
