In recent years, the marijuana industry has grown massively. This is all thanks to the fact that recreational usage and the sale of marijuana has now become legal in countries all over the world, meaning more people are purchasing products and accessories related to it too. With this legalization, came the development of so many new and creative ways of consuming marijuana which are now available on the market for the general public to buy.
For years, everyone was stuck with smoking a joint because that’s all there was to offer, but nowadays people are a lot more concerned about the health of their lungs and just their overall health in general. This is why research into healthier methods of consumption have resulted in the invention of vaporizers and dry herb vaporisers, which both stray away from using typical combustion methods to smoke and rather use vapour instead.
If you are looking to buy a dry herb vaporizer there are a few things to know, including all the different feature they have to offer.
What is a dry herb vaporizer?
Much like your regular standard vaporizer, a dry herb vaporizer is a small, easy to use, concealed, handheld product that allows you to smoke marijuana without any kind of combustion. Although there is still heat involved. Unlike regular vaping, dry herb vaporizers, like some of these, use the actual flower instead of a concentrate that comes in the form of a wax, oil, or liquid. The vapour comes from the actual herb which is heated to extreme temperatures and allows for it to release cannabinoids through evaporation.
There are two different heating methods that dry herb vaporizers can have. The cheaper option being one that has a chamber which makes use of conduction heating. This means that the chamber, and the herb, are heated through a heated plate at the bottom. This heating method doesn’t allow for even distribution of heat but this can be solved by stirring the product around occasionally. The other method makes use of convection heating, which is where the whole chamber is heated evenly throughout by moving the heat around the air. While these are easier to use they do tend to be a bit more on the pricey side.
Temperature Control and Battery
Most dry herb vapes come with some kind of heat or temperature control settings which allow you to have complete control over the product. By being able to control the temperature to specific degrees, it allows you to enjoy different flavours that can be presented by terpenes present within the marijuana plant. Terpenes are the chemical which allow you to smell the aroma of the plant.
Next up is the battery. There is nothing worse than starting a vape session and finding out that you vaporizer has no charge. As a general rule of thumb, it is wiser to choose a vape that has a larger battery size that will last you longer and not have to be charged as often. Most vapes come with a charger, as well as an LED screen, that will tell you when your battery is getting low and needs to be charged.
Different Types of Vaporizers
There are two main types of dry herb vaporizers: portable, and desktop. Portable vaporizer, also known as vape pens, are small, lightweight, and easy to just stash in your bag or pocket and take on the go with you.
Desktop vaporizers are much larger and typically only made use of when at home or in a chosen location where it will not move as it is not so portable. They tend to be more powerful and are generally always plugged in.
How to Use One
When starting off with a brand new vape there are a few things you will need to do before actually vaping. First off, start by reading the instruction manual to make sure you understand your device.
Next, most vape come with USB charger. Charge your vape before you use it to preserve the life of the battery.
A step that usually isn’t included in the instructions is the “burn-off” which is where you clear off any residue and then set your vape to the highest temperature setting. Big chunks of marijuana won’t burn very easily meaning that you need to prepare you herb before putting it in the chamber.
The last few steps all go together, pack the chamber, preheat the vape, set the temperature and inhale.
