AVS GEAR ZIPPY BT-500 compact bluetooth wireless keyboard is a mover and a shaker— iPad 2 Ready too!

In the age of many tablets, smartphones and touchscreen media players in one household, many times these devices are that much more useful when you can compliment them with a physical keyboard.  But if you had to purchase one for each device, you might not think it such a convenience.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have the option to move your portable office/entertainment center around and set up shop where you’re most comfortable?  AVS GEAR (http://www.avsgear.com) has a great solution with the debut of the company’s latest compact Bluetooth wireless keyboard, the ZIPPY BT-500.

The ZIPPY BT-500 features Apple iPad 2 and iPhone support and is also equipped with one-touch fast switch technology. You have the option to connect to six different Bluetooth devices simultaneously, allowing you to alternate between each device in a matter of seconds. The ZIPPY BT-500 has a transmission range up to 10 meters and is compatible with Smartphone devices, PDAs and tablet PCs that are equipped with Bluetooth technology.

AVS Gear’s BT-500 is equipped with an ultra-flat scissor structure keys, is encased in a thin compact design, and features low-power consumption (runs on a couple of AAAs). It’s designed for use in a variety of environments, such as living rooms, classrooms and conference rooms, and can also be carried while on the go.

I love the ZIPPY for several reasons.  First, it’s small and simple, but it feels like you’ve got a full size keyboard at your fingertips.  And the keys give a great tactile experience while the ZIPPY keys remain quiet.  It’s not overwhelmingly “clicky” when you’re punching at the keys. By simple, I mean there’s no funky hinges or folding mechanisms where you need to really think how you’re going to close this sucker.  Some manufacturers figure that if a keyboard closes or folds, that it’s offering some miracle of portablity.  Not really.  Generally speaking, these so-called portable folding keyboards offer no more portability than their flat counterparts.  Rather, they become thicker, they don’t lose a lot of surface area when folded, and sometimes they’re a real pain to close.  The ZIPPY is what it is, and it’s always ready to go.

Secondly, I like the fact that the ZIPPY really CAN memorize 6 different Bluetooth devices.  So many gadgets I’ve reviewed with Bluetooth on board can have connectivity and password glitches.  Not the ZIPPY.  It’s very easy to connect, and it connects fast.  And with the “Fast Switch” technology, you’re not horsing around waiting for it to “disconnect” and “reconnect” with another device.  It’s super fast at this function.

Finally, it’s very affordable at $50, and it uses very little energy.  In fact, a deuce of AAA batteries will keep this baby powered for a couple of months, if not longer.  All-in-all, this might be the game-leader in portable wireless bluetooth keyboards.  It’s small, it offers a nicely spaced keyboard, it’s battery-powered (love this), and it’s very easy to switch in and out supporting Bluetooth devices.  It’s also inexpensive, and in my testing, it really has quite a far range.  AVS says transmission ranges up to 10 meters, but I pushed it out to 13-14 meters, and was still typing away without a typo or an “out-of-range” issue.  And it certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s compatable with all of the latest gear, namely iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

The AVS Gear ZIPPY BT-500 Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is available now at Amazon.com and Newegg.com with an MSRP of $49.99, and is also backed by a ZIPPY three-year Limited Replacement Warranty through AVS GEAR.  Buy it……you’ll love it.
