    D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 Full HD Wi-Fi Camera – FULL REVIEW

For any Smart Home enthusiast looking for a reliable way to keep their family safe and protected, getting a Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera would be the best way to do just that. That’s because, nowadays, most Smart Home Wi-Fi Cameras are designed as all-in-one smart home security systems, as they come packed with many different smart functionalities. On that note, if you’re looking for an all-in-one Wi-Fi Camera for your Smart Home, consider going with the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2.

The D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 is a Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera that features Full HD 1080p Video with 360º Adjustability and IR Night Vision, Two-Way Talk, Smartphone In-App Controls, and even support to multiple Voice Assistants.

Overall, the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 makes for a really solid Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera for you to go with. With it, you can monitor your home in a 24/7 basis and see everything that’s happening inside it in a Full HD 1080p resolution, all while letting the camera’s advanced AI-based person detection functionality notify you and even alert you to any motion detected outside.

So, without any further ado, let’s have a more detailed look at each of the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2’s functionalities and check out everything that this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera has to offer you.

    DESIGN & SPECS

Starting with the camera’s size, this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera comes at a very small size, measuring just 2.44 inches long by 2.55 inches wide by 4.40 inches tall (62 x 65 x 112 mm), and the camera is also fairly lightweight, weighing just around 2.82 oz. (80 g).

    D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 Full HD Wi-Fi Camera

I’d like to point out that this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera is designed only for indoors use. On that note, in addition to its ultra-compact size, the camera’s sleek and minimalist design allows it to easily blend in with pretty much any choice of home decor you currently have, which ultimately makes it fairly easy for you to set it up / install it just about anywhere in the house.

Not only that, but the camera also features a very solid and durable construction throughout its whole body.

Now, onto the camera’s main components. Right at the center of the camera, we have a 2 Megapixel Lens that features a Focal Length of 3.18 mm and a F2.2 Lens Aperture, and also integrates a 1/3” Progressive CMOS Image Sensor that can record video at a fairly high quality.

The camera itself can record video in a Full HD 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) at a solid 30 frames per second, all of that with a reasonably large 120-degree Field-Of-View for its video-recording functionalities, which, to be slightly more specific, comes from the combination of its 100° of Horizontal Panning / Tilting and its 52° of Vertical Panning / Tilting.

In other words, the camera’s 120-degree Field-Of-View makes it fairly easy for homeowners to position the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 in a reliable way that ultimately provides a clear view for most of the key parts of a room.

I’d also like to point out that the camera’s recorded high-definition digital video footage is compressed based on the typical H.264 codec, which basically ensures that image quality is never lost.

In addition to all of that, and as mentioned earlier, the camera’s Full HD 1080p Video is also supported by a IR Night Vision functionality, which basically allows the camera to record both during the day and night, thus allowing you to conveniently record high-quality video so that you can easily see what’s happening at all times, even in total darkness.

Thanks to its IR Night Vision, this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera can record video at night-time up to a maximum distance of 16.40 ft. (5 m).

It’s also worth mentioning that the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 Full HD Wi-Fi Camera also boasts a AI-based Person-Detection technology that basically allows the camera to cleverly identify any sort of human motion, which is ultimately what allows the camera to differentiate between just an object moving around (say your kids playing around with a toy or a pillow) or an actual person.

Best of all, the camera also comes equipped with a Fully-Adjustable 360-Degree Base, which allows you to ensure that you’re able to set it up at the perfect angle, no matter where you install it within your house, whether that’s a countertop, a tall shelf unit, etc.

Still, I’d also like to note that, if you prefer, instead of having the camera set up at a countertop or flat surface while supported by its its Fully-Adjustable 360-Degree Base, you can alternatively Wall-Mount it (or even mount it on the ceiling), as all of the required hardware to do that also comes included in the package.

Last but not least, as stated before, this camera also comes together with its very own Two-Way Talk System, which users can interact with via the camera’s Smartphone Companion App (discussed at the end of the article). That said, just below the camera’s dedicated 2 Megapixel Lens, we can quickly find its built-in Microphone as the first half of the camera’s Two-Way Talk System.

Then, right at the back of the camera itself, we also have a built-in Speaker. By integrating both a built-in Microphone and a built-in Speaker, the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 also offers its users a reliable Two-Way Audio functionality that features a superior sound quality.

CONNECTIVITY & SET UP / INSTALLATION

Now, for the camera’s connectivity features, I’d like to start out by saying that this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera has its wireless connectivity working based on a built-in Bluetooth Low Energy technology, which basically allows users to have a much faster setup / installation process.

Not only that, but the camera also features support to WPA3 encryption for its recorded video footage, meaning the latest WiFi security encryption protocol to ensure that all of your recorded footage is safe from any potential hackers.

Last but not least, while many Smart Home devices currently available on the market are now outdated, as they come running on previous internet protocols (such as IPv4), the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 actually features support to the next-generation IPv6 protocol.

This basically helps to ensure users that this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera is future-proof, as well as compatible with any next-generation Internet standards that are still to be released.

    VIDEO STORAGE

For the camera’s Video Storage, we have a total of three (x3) different Storage Options. That said, you can either use an external Micro SD Memory Card up to 256 GB.

On that note, if you do decide to use an external Micro SD Memory Card for the camera’s Video Storage functionality, know that the camera’s dedicated Micro SD Card slot can be found at the left-side of the camera’s body.

Alternatively, you can also use the company’s Subscription-Based mydlink Cloud Recording Service, which, in my opinion, is available at a reasonably affordable price. Check out D-Link’s official webpage to know more about its Cloud Recording Service.

Last but not least, this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera also supports both phone as well as ONVIF Profile S recording. That basically means that this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera is also ONVIF Compliant, meaning that it also supports ONVIF for continuous recording via any compatible NVR (Network Video Recorder), any VMS (Video Management Software ) or any NAS (Network-Attached Storage) System.

THE SMARTPHONE COMPANION APP – The mydlink App

Now, the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 wouldn’t really be a Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera without its very own Smartphone Companion App, which for its case, is called the mydlink App (available to download for free for both iOS and Android devices).

The mydlink App is exactly what allows users to be sent both detailed Smartphone Notifications and Alerts whenever the camera’s Sound and/or Motion Detection functionalities are triggered.

Via the App, users can configure the settings for the camera’s Notifications and Alerts, and can also manage all of their camera scenes if they have multiple mydlink cameras already set-up at home.

In addition, the mydlink App also allows users to manage, control, and set automations for all of their mydlink cameras, as well as smart plugs, and even sensors, and this can be done at anytime and anywhere.

That said, the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 is also compatible with pretty much any other mydlink Smart Home devices, working flawlessly with just about any other mydlink Smart Home device that you might already own.

    OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES

    Support to Multiple Voice Assistants

Lastly, I’d also like to mention that the D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 Full HD Wi-Fi Camera also features full support to multiple Voice Assistants, which for its case would be the Google Assistant as well as Amazon’s Alexa Voice Assistant. Thanks to that, you can also use and control this Smart Home Wi-Fi Camera via simple and easy to use Voice Commands.

    WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

Inside each package, users will find: their D-Link DCS-8300LHV2 Full HD Wi-Fi Camera, the camera’s included USB Power Adapter and USB Power Cord, as well as the included hardware to wall-mount / ceiling-mount the camera, and also a User Manual.
