Apple Patent Has New iTunes Spiral Interface

Apple has submitted a patent that suggests iTunes might be getting a spiral interface. It works by grouping artists, genres, or albums together under spirals, allowing for a different way of browsing your music. I’m not sure yet whether it will make things more functional, but I don’t think Apple would release something like this if they didn’t think that this would revolutionize sorting and organizing of tunes.

If this feature makes it to market, we will probably see it in the next iteration of iTunes, iTunes 11.  We also suspect that if it’s a hit, other phone OS giants will certainly follow suit, or something similar.
