Toshiba 14” USB-powered Mobile LCD Monitor review (video)

Toshiba’s new 14-inch USB-powered Mobile LCD Monitor is a sweet bit of technology.  It sports a 1366×768 resolution, and transmits power and video via the attached computer’s USB port.  It’s perfect for laptop users and weighs a mere 2.8lb,  ideal for adding an additional screen to any Windows-based laptop at work, school or home. Featuring a 14-inch diagonal widescreen display , it provides super clear and crisp images as a laptop’s LCD. It’s also less than 1” thick, so you can fit this ultra-portable monitor in most laptop bags.

Both the monitor’s power and video are powered via USB, eliminating the need to carry an AC adapter or video cable.  This allows business travelers and students to conduct on-the-spot presentations and share content without the need for a bulky projector or crowd around a laptop screen. It can also be used as an additional display in extended mode for serious on-the-go multitasking. The Mobile Monitor includes a protective black vinyl carrying case, which quickly folds into an adjustable stand that can be set to various viewing levels, and also houses the monitor’s included USB Y cable. For $199.99, you can’t beat it, and it’s shipping now.

I like the Toshiba 14-inch USB monitor for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, you can now take a full office with you on the road.  Many PC users are using more than one monitor as default.  As a consequence, those that use multiple displays really get used to it.  So when they hit the road and don’t have a couple of monitors to look at, they’re like a fish out of water.  The Toshiba 14-inch USB LCD monitor solves that problem by giving you a sleek, light extra monitor to bring with you, with very little towing space needed in your PC bag.

Secondly, the 1366 x 768 LCD resolution is OUTSTANDING!  I actually booted up my main work on the Toshiba, and used my actual laptop monitor as the ‘secondary’.  It’s displays crisp, bright and very detailed images, and video looks killer on the Toshiba as well. 14-inches is no slouch.  Even though it might look portable, and it is, 14-inches gives you a lot of surface area to view. It almost reminds me of a desktop monitor.

Thirdly, I love the fact that you don’t need any extra cables besides a USB to power this baby.  If you’re a road warrior like me, this is HUGE!  I’m sure many reading this will appreciate ‘less cords’.  And finally, for the price, the Toshiba is priced right.  Sure you can find something a tad less expensive, but it certainly is not going to give you a 14″-diagonal display, it sure is not going to give you the kind of resolution the Toshiba has, and the design of the monitor and case make the simple set up and use-ability worth any extra cost.  I really like this product.

As mentioned,  the Toshiba 14-inch USB-powered Mobile LCD Monitor sells for $199.99, and you can find it direct at Toshibadirect.com, and other major online retailers.  Amazon has it for a little cheaper at $187.  Go to Amazon [amazon_link id=”B004SP0S28″ target=”_blank” ]HERE[/amazon_link] to purchase.
