GadgetGUY Holiday Guide- Top 5 Gadgets and Trends for the 2012

Shopping for the holidays already?  No need to explain why tech gadgets will again be the hot topic for Christmas shopping.  These days, tech innovation is not merely hardware.  It provides gateways into a whole new social, economical and entertainment world.  It’s a great time to be a technology enthusiast, and over the course of the next 3-months, an even better time to be a technology shopper.

Here are the top 5 tech pics for your gadget fan:

    1. iPhone 5

Apple does it right when it comes out with their next-gen iPhone.   Apple enthusiasts have already dubbed the new iPhone 5 as one for the ages.  Featuring a larger display with a fifth row of apps, this edition is the tallest, thinnest and lightest to date.  Add more processing power, the best camera ever on a smartphone and a revamped OS6, and you have a device that will achieve the ranks of the highest-selling technology product ever.

    2. Windows 8

Windows is banking on “touch” with their all new touch-enabled OS, Windows 8.   Microsoft’s new iteration operating system has been completely over-hauled, featuring an intuitive an visually spectacular home screen and dashboard that marries the smartphone and the tablet, and achieves a revolution in the PC experience.   By organizing music, videos, browsing and apps into a concise virtual file cabinet, Windows 8 will mark the beginning of a new computing era.

    3. Microsoft Surface

A lot of press has been circulating around Microsoft’s new Surface tablet.  It will be the first Microsoft-designed PC.   Possibly introducing in time for the holidays, the Surface will showcase a built-in sand, a cover that opens to reveal a low-profile keyboard, and a stellar camera.

    4. Google Nexus 7

Google is entering the tablet arena with their new Google Nexus 7 tablet.   The new 7-inch tablet will sport a NVIDIA quad-core Tegra 4 processor, a 1280 x 800 display, and is one of the only Android devices on the market running the latest version of Google’s operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.  Currently only available in a 8GB and 16GB Wi-Fi version, a 3G iteration is expected soon.

    5. Ultrabooks

While the Macbook Air was essentially the first UltraBook, the term is actually the general term for the PC version of the “Air”.  Ultrabooks typically have gorgeous brushed metal finishes, no DVD drive, a non-removable battery, a buttonless multitouch trackpad and a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a harddrive.  More importantly, they are all the rage, and companies like ASUS, Toshiba, Dell and Acer are cleaning up with record-breaking sales of these fashionable steely wedges.  We like the new Acer Aspire S3.  The Acer packs plenty of power, sophistication and features for a price that is a tad lower than the competition.
